Follow Me

“I can hardly see. Sharp crystals of ice force me to bow my head down and walk barely watching the ground. I’m carefully running down the hill when I finally raise my head. Holly shit! What is that? There is a steep snow-covered Pen-y-ghent hill towering right in front of me, topped with viento blanco that looks like it was transferred directly from Peruvian Andes…”. This is how Czech extreme racer Pavel Paloncý describes few minutes of 400 kilometer long race through Scottish highlands. He was running alone, in an empty landscape, yet his struggle with the track was followed by tens of spectators…

Pavel hired me and developer Zdenek to create a GPS tracking service that is built for online monitoring and evaluating of mainly extreme and high-profile races. Each racer receives small device, that periodically tracks their route. Routes are automatically evaluated and constantly updated to make up a score sheet. All routes – and racers’ current positions – are displayed in real time on a map. This makes them comparable and easy to follow the entire race as it progresses. No more waiting in the rain for a lonely runner. FollowMe means real time online broadcast of the race from almost any place on the planet.

We created the interface for tracking, score sheets system, complete administration of races and tracks, product website with access to all races. Two men show and magnus opus from scratch. FollowMe is a custom made service for race organizers which they can place directly on their website. It is also useful for individuals who set out for a weekend trip into mountains and are afraid of getting lost in woods. It can as well be used for tracking your escaper dog, or pretty much anyone, anything, anywhere. Just don’t get too crazy with that…
